Disc Brakes As One Of The Alternative For Bike Brakes

Disc brakes functions mainly with the aid of a metal disc attached to the wheel of the bi-cycle. When the bike brakes are pulled, the calipers attached to the frame of the disc press the disc to slow the bike. Disc brakes are more commonly used in mountain rides. It has an advantage of not getting spoiled by mud or water as the brakes are above the ground level. This feature tremendously helps the brakes not to lose its power. Though it helps to achieve long life, it is a bit costly to use when compared with rim brakes. There are two kinds of disc brakes, mechanical and hydraulic disc brakes. Hydraulic brakes won’t fail often but if it fails it would be complete and cannot be sorted immediately as it requires specialized equipment to replace or repair the hydraulic system.

On the other hand complete repair of mechanical brakes will not happen. The present age is witnessing more advanced brake systems like zero gravity and negative gravity brakes. Ted Ciamillo, who revolutionized the brake systems, is the inventor of zero gravity brakes and ciamillo brakes. For road bike brakes it is important to keep the weight low also it should not wear out after few months. Modern brakes are built keeping this feature in mind.
